From marine plastic to recycled material
Visitors to the arburgGREENworld pavilion will first learn how plastic waste that accumulates as vortices in ocean can be turned into high-quality recycled materials. One example of this is the processing of old fishing nets, known as “ghost nets”, into high-density polyethylene (HDPE) by the company Healix. Visitors can also try their hand at pedalling a “recycling bike” – built by the trainees themselves – e.g. to shred yoghurt pots. This enables end-of-life plastic products to be returned to the recycling loop. An industrial mill is also in operation, demonstrating how plastic is returned to the injection moulding process as regrind.
