Light becomes lighter

GIZMO Plastics Tech.

Since 1984, GIZMO Plastics Tech., a Taiwanese plastics processor with around 150 employees, has developed into an international supplier to the automotive, industrial and agricultural machinery sectors. The project focused on replacing aluminium alloy components with lightweight, high-performance plastic components. This required reliably meeting the highest standards of precision and quality, particularly for housings and internal structures in automotive and motorcycle applications. At the same time, production needed to remain efficient and cost-effective.

Increased efficiency

Reduction in cycle time from 22 to 18 seconds through an optimised sprue design, eliminating the need for separation.

Material savings

Reduction in the shot weight from eight to five grams by modifying the sprue system.

Increased productivity

Increase in output from 98 to 99.5 per cent through the use of ALLROUNDER machines.

Solution

Using ARBURG's injection moulding technology, GIZMO was able to reliably process highly filled plastics containing up to 30 per cent glass fibre, thereby producing high-performance lightweight components. The components developed fully meet the high strength requirements of the automotive and motorcycle industries while also enabling significant weight savings, such as reducing the weight of a scooter cover from 1,550 to 1,050 grams.

Close cooperation with ARBURG's application engineers ensured the components were produced reliably and efficiently. Optimisations in the injection moulding process resulted in shorter cycle times, reduced material usage and increased output. At the same time, the control system ensures high process stability and consistently high component quality, with a process capability index of over 1.67.
