FORTAPS S.L., a leading manufacturer of plastic protective caps, end caps, tube inserts and customer-specific technical plastic protective components, has been partnering successfully ARBURG since 2011. In the context of this long-standing partnership, FORTAPS had one specific requirement: the automated removal of the injection moulded parts should be integrated directly into the production process, without any effect on the existing cycle time. At that time, there was no comparable solution on the market. Even though the INTEGRALPICKER V was not yet validated for the electric ALLROUNDER 630 A back then, ARBURG worked with FORTAPS to develop a tested and officially approved solution. The result was a seamlessly integrated automation with high process reliability and an unchanged level of productivity.

Solution

The solution is based on an ALLROUNDER 630 A with integrated INTEGRALPICKER V, whose movements are fully synchronised with the injection moulding process. Thanks to parallel sequences, parts are removed without any effect on the cycle time. This enabled productivity, process reliability and manufacturing flexibility to be increased in equal measure. Full integration into the machine controller means that the robot and machine movements are precisely coordinated to each other. The capacity of each cycle is put to the best possible use, while idle times are reduced to a minimum. The result is an automation that can be individually parameterised for more than 1,600 part variants from FORTRAPS, without any effect on the cycle time. Through the close cooperation with ARBURG, the solution was continuously optimised and successfully validated, and the required production performance was not only achieved, but actually surpassed.
