FAKUMA 2026: Partner project

At FAKUMA 2026, the partners ARBURG (injection moulding machine), Kebo (mould) and Matriq (component marking) will demonstrate an innovative marking process for medical technology: an electric ALLROUNDER 570 A in clean-room version will produce housing components for auto-injectors using a 4-cavity mould. Individual Data Matrix codes are applied directly to the component during the injection moulding process via a dynamic mould insert equipped with 144 heating elements, each measuring just 0.28 x 0.28 millimetres. This process is suitable for a wide application spectrum of materials, requires no downstream production steps and can significantly reduce energy requirement, cycle time and costs.

Inline marking via micro-heaters in the mould insert

An electric ALLROUNDER 570 A in clean-room version produces four auto-injector housings in a cycle time of around eleven seconds. The high-performance machine from the ALLDRIVE series is predestined for fast and precise serial production of medical technology products and fulfils the requirements for production in ISO 7 clean-room class. The 4-cavity mould is based on the proven Kebo “Lift & Strip” concept and is actuated completely mechanically and synchronously via the machine ejector. The highlight of the application is a dynamic mould insert integrated into the cavities, through which each component receives an individual Data Matrix code. The insert is equipped with 144 individually controllable micro-heaters, which reach temperature within milliseconds and generate individual geometric structures. Each micro-heater measures only 0.28 x 0.28 millimetres and weighs only around 0.0000015 grams (1.5 micrograms), making it 20,000 times lighter than a grain of rice. Subsequent production steps are unnecessary. This reduces cycle time, installation area and the costs of an additional marking device and robot system for part handling.

Medical products 100 per cent traceable

A central database system communicates with the GESTICA machine control system and the Matriq system via an OPC UA interface. The part ID, the relevant operating data and measurement data of the ALLROUNDER, as well as the individual Data Matrix codes, are synchronously linked in the database. The components can then be clearly identified using a camera system and precisely assigned to the corresponding production and measurement data. This makes it possible to retrieve machine data and process parameters such as date, shot count, injection pressure and cushion volume at any time.
